I want to learn how to restore cars, and have been thinking of buying a cheap car and taking it apart?

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

My question is which one should it be? Obviously not too expensive so that if I fail to put it together, its not a big deal, but at the same time it needs to be old enough for it to be before the point where the only person who could tell you what the engine was is a mechanic. Any ideas?

Is buying a car from an auto auction a good idea?

    Tuesday, February 8th, 2011

I am a 19 year old male, never had a car, and I live in the state of Illinois. I am planning on buying a car from an auto auction for around ,000-,400. I was told I need to take a mechanic with me to look at the car overall, the one I’m buying that is. Plus I have done Carfax Vehicle History reports on most of the cars at the auction I am going to, and the car i want only showed 1 report, so I am looking to buy that car it’s only ,000, but i was wondering do I have to pay additional fees or just flat out pay the ,000 at an auto auction. And what information should I ask for the title? and do they give you the liscence plates for the car? Has anyone ever bought a car from an auto auction for around this price range if so, let me know how it ran, how long it ran, and how much maintenence had to be done to the car? I would appreciate it, and do they actually bid for these cars at this price or do you just look at each car through the parking lot?

What are the most important things to check at an auto auction?

      Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

I want to go to a government seized auto auction to get a car. Since your not allowed to test drive these cars, I definetly will bring along my mechanic to look at the car. What are the most important things for him to check since the car is sold "as is"?

Also, most of these vehicles are newer (2000 or newer) so they’re not very old.
Somebody here said to not buy a car that is clean on the outside because it usually means that it is in bad mechanical condition. Why is that?

      Auto Auctions and Bidding?

      Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

Okay I’ve never been to an auto auction and was wondering how does the process go? Do they let you walk around and look at the cars and have a mechanic check it while the bidding is going on, or do you have to check the cars before the auction start? and do they bid one car at a time, or do they bid many cars at once? and do you actually have to still bid on the car if you’re the only one that wants the car? and no other bidder’s have stepped up ? and besides paying for the car itself, what other items do you have to pay for (such as title, liscence plates, etc.) and how much extra would it cost you?

Where do I find public auto auctions in my state?

      Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

I have seen totally amazing deals on some auto auctions a state away and I really want to know where I can find those auto auctions in my state. I really need a car and I think this is the only way that I am going to be able to afford one. My boyfriend is a mechanic, so he can fix most minor problems. Know where I should look?
